How the university is governed
Kremsegg University is built to last — its founders’ stated intention is an institution that remains world-class and sustainable for more than a hundred years. Governance is designed accordingly: to protect the university’s mission across generations while guaranteeing the academic freedom and professional standards a degree-granting institution requires.
A clear separation of inspiration and authority
The university draws its vision and its lineage from Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, who serves as Spiritual Guide. It is governed, academically and operationally, by its Rector, faculty, and Board under professional standards and complete academic freedom. This distinction is deliberate and permanent: spiritual inspiration animates the institution; it does not direct its scholarship. It is the same principle that allows universities grounded in a tradition — Georgetown or KU Leuven among them — to remain fully open to people of every background and belief.
The Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees holds ultimate responsibility for the university’s mission, integrity, and long-term sustainability. Continuity with the founding lineage is built into its composition: representation connected to the Gomde community and the Rangjung Yeshe Institute is maintained by design, with succession planned in advance so that the founding vision is never unrepresented.
The Board returns regularly to the questions that serve as its tie-breakers for any difficult decision; among them whether the university remains world-class by both Western and Eastern measures, whether it remains sustainable for the century ahead, and whether the founding intention would still be recognizable in what the institution has become.

The Advisory Council
The Advisory Council convenes a global network of contemplative scholars, scientists, and leaders across multiple fields to inform the university’s academic direction, research agenda, and public engagement. The breadth and standing of this network is itself one of the institution’s distinguishing assets — a convening capacity in the contemplative sciences and leadership that very few new universities could assemble.
